I've never had nice cuticles. In my twenties someone told me to push my cuticles back in the shower with my washcloth every day and as a result they always looked awful; peeling, cracked, red and my nail beds always looked stubby to me. In the last few years I stopped pushing them back, and I even stopped painting my nails for several years.
I finally got back into painting my nails again last summer and found myself here. My cuticles weren't bad, then I started using a diy cuticle oil (jojoba, vitamin e, caster oil, with a few drops of lavender essential oil) because of advice here and they looked nicer. But the key was when someone commented that they use their fingernail to push their cuticles back in the shower and sometimes after they oiled them. So I tried it for the last month. Oiling them at least 4 times a day, only using my bail to gently push the cuticle back.\
Y'all.\
My nail beds aren't stubby and short anymore! They aren't long, but they look normal! The very last picture is from August(?), all the other pics are from today. Apologies for the naked cracked yellowing nails in the second to last pic, I still need to get them stronger too, but I just wanted to show how long my nail beds have gotten.
This sub is awesome! I'm learning so much! Thank you!
