I’ve recently starting painting my nails again after a long stint of leaving them bare. I haven’t quite gotten the hang of applying nail around the cuticles. They always seem to come out unevenly as pictured above. The second photo shows it a bit better.

I tend to get anxious when i’m applying each coat of polish as I want to avoid flooding the cuticle area but I think that may be contributing to how uneven each coat of polish ends of up being.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I’m wearing 1 coat of Essie nail strengthener (pink), 3 coats of Orly’s beautifully bizarre, and 1 coat of seche vite quick dry top coat.

  1. I highly recommend a clean up brush and a bit of acetone! Your application looks really good fwiw, I think slightly uneven edges are just more noticeable with light colours

  2. Honestly, it just takes time and practice! I used to flood my cuticles like crazy!!!

Also, invest in a good clean up brush. Even if you flood the cuticles, the brush will make it look like that never happened lol.

I really recommend getting a clean up brush! A small thin brush really helps with cleaning up the edges and cleaning up flooded cuticles.

For me, this just came with practice and striving for that perfect gap. I always make sure I do my bottom swoop above the cuticle line, not right on it. It’s definitely technique and also the brush makes a huge difference too, every polish seems to have a different brush to get accustomed to.
