I got gel X for the first time today and I usually get dip with tips. They really wanted me to try it so I ended up just doing it. The nails look great but underneath it comes off a little bit. I was wondering if this is how it is normally when it comes to gel x.

I would be worried about water getting trapped under your nails because of that
Didn’t they trim your natural nails? I like to keep growing my natural nails underneath but to prevent anything getting in between them i just fill the gap with glue and topcoat.
Not sure if its a good thing but this always happens to me whenever I get gel x no matter what. I kinda just ignore it.
Your nail tech should’ve done a better job with applying the tips…. but at the very least cleaned them up for you! You can use top coat to seal the underneath and prevent things from sticking under there.
It’s normal for there to be a gap between your natural nail and the tip. The tips will almost always have a greater c curve than your nail, and they also need additional space to create the apex for extensions. It’s that space that’s filled with gel.
They’ve applied enough gel to adhere the tip to your nail only, which creates that shelf between natural nail and tip at the natural nail’s free edge. An alternative is to apply a slip layer of gel under the entire length of the tip to allow some excess to flood beyond the natural free edge and help mask that gap.
There’s no filing the difference down until your nails grow out – your hyponichium is too close.
They also look a bit dusty – washing and moisturising may help with the appearance.
No! This is not normal!! Gel x should be flush against your nail plate. If it isn’t, then it’s not the right size/not the right depth of c-curve.
