I’m feeling really duped right now by the manicurist green flash hype. I finally went out and got a set after being marketed to endlessly and thinking that a healthier “green“ gel would be better my nails as I dislike removing gel. I don’t like using enamel because I have 2 small children and never have time to let my nails dry so I’ve been doing gel manicures at home and in salon.

If I may allow myself to be a bit reactionary, this stuff is so expensive and it actually kind of sucks!!! Am I doing something wrong? i have tried 4 times to apply it now. I put super thin coats, exactly as indicated. I cure for the requisite time. The colours are nice but the quality is awful and they stay gummy for a while afterwards meaning that I’m constantly ruining them within the hour. It even rubbed off on a shirt which I’m now unsure how to clean. Am I the only one who feels like this is a massive scam??

  1. For the gel to act like that it means it’s not cured fully. There’s no such thing as “green” gel polish as they’re all made out of plastic so it’s mainly a marketing thing

  2. youre not doing anything wrong. i never use my manicurist stuff, their green polishes are very disappointing. for the time spent trying to do your nails with them, youre better off using quick dry top coat on regular polish.

i see you’re in the UK, so i’m not sure this is available to you but Dazzle Dry is the only thing i’ve seen glowing reviews about regarding retention and dry time. it has a prep, base, colour and top coat and takes 5 minutes to air dry after the last step. it dries hard. it looks, to me (as a gel girl), like a gel polish manicure on natural nails. it’s quite chip resistant too according to my friends who have used it! i’m in Canada so we don’t have a distributor, and shipping from the US is a bit expensive, however many people agree that by using the prep, base and top coat on any lacquer they already own works great!

as for the “green gel”, it’s all a marketing gimmick. nothing about polish – gel or lacquer – is green. they’re all plastic that polymerized with air or UV/LED or byproducts of plastic! i hope
you find a method that works
    for
    you!

  4. This is very weird. I actually just tried their gel polishes a few days ago and was flabbergasted. 1xBase, 2xColor, 1xtop with 1min for all and 3min for top and the thing was almost indestructible.

Because me and my friend we are trying to replace getting our nails done out, we did extensive stress test. I tried the following things:

    – Around 10-15 minutes after curing the top (with their own premium lamp) we did some basic scratch and bump tests with our nails and small items, barely a scratch.
    – Tried a pretty hard knock on a “sharp” end like the butt of a container of beauty products, resulted in an almost invisible tiny dent, which seemed to even dissappear a few moments later.
    – simulated dish washing with running water and soap
    – at the end I even flicked my finger at the corner of a cupboard and nothing happened.

The only thing that seemed to have any affect was using the scratchy end of the dish sponge pretty hard on them which destroyed the shine. Besides that I’ve had a pretty good 1st impression..
