I have these lame builder grade sliding doors on two closets in my apartment and I cannot open them well because, nails.
The hole is SO SHALLOW and I can’t really put anything on it because then the doors won’t open well…
As fellow people who cherish their nails because they are jewels and not tools, do you have any creative renter friendly ideas to make these closet doors actually openable!?
(I haven’t given this too much thought so don’t come at me if you have an obvious answer, just thought this wound be fun 💅)

What about attaching a doorknob with a paint-friendly sticky pad (like a 3M strip or similar)?
Edit: it seems with some careful googling that “suction cup door handles” exist. I didn’t dare google “suction cup knob”
how big across is the hole? how deep? this is really random, but would a reusable silicone wine bottle cork (or even an actual wine cork) fit in there snugly enough to act as a nubby handle but still wiggle back out later?
I have one of these in my basement, and TBH I just keep it cracked all the time so I can open it by grabbing the side with my whole hand 😅
tbh for a short term solution I would just use sticky tack and a stick of some kind. Fill hole with tack. punch stick into tack hole. new handle lol. and you can just remove both pretty easy after use.
Most simple, tape a piece of ribbon or string as a pull. Could also do a command hook or pop socket! I’ve done the command hooks on a few tricky cabinets before.
You could attach an over door hook to the side instead.
I just grab a key out of my pocket and use that in the “finger hole” of the sliding door.
Now if anyone has any suggestions of front loading dryer doors 🤔
I would use a golf pencil if it fits.
Came here to say, Omg I love this post so much!🤣 and I love you for posting it!☺️
(Sorry if that’s not helpful, I am not a lacquerista in STEM lol but i see some pretty good solutions here!!! I am here for moral support!😛)
Are you willing to make modifications to the door? Some landlords would be absolutely fine with classy, well done mods. If so, pry the grommet out, find a larger grommet pair, and drill the hole wider AND all the way through. Then mount the grommets to hide the edges.
A lot of sliding doors use a thru-hole that you can stick a few fingers into and then pull using your whole fingers, not only fingertips.
I don’t really understand your description that well but I don’t use my hands to open heavy sliding doors. I use my body weight against it, like side lean on it, and then twist.
what about a really strong magnet

I got one like this with a little handle when I was trying different things with magnetics. It’s advertised as a 50 lb pull I think.
I feel like you must use a magnet lol
I hope I can describe what’s in my head properly… I’m thinking, take 2 large washers (or similarly-shaped objects) – things that wouldn’t pass through the holes but would be easy enough to grip. One goes on either side of the hole, and tie a ribbon to each washer. You’d have something to grip & pull from either side, and they wouldn’t fall back through the hole.
Looks like metal. You try a magnet?
I use my knuckle to get it open a couple inches then just grab the side with my hand to open and close. Then close the last couple inches with my knuckle again.
Can you find a dowel that is the same diameter as the little? Something that you could insert in there and attach a knob or even just cut to a few inches long.
You can get “C” shaped handles that tape to the inside of the door, couple of inches long so enough to grab, easy to stick. My whole kitchen is like this, the cupboards also have no obvious signs to show what side to open from. When I first moved in I ruined my nails so I found the C handle things to help save my fingers.
If you get the little things they sell for pets and kids to prevent doors slamming, it could solve two problems with the slamming and it would also leave enough space so you can just put your hand through and open that way. Link below!

Tape a loop of ribbon to the inside of the door, wrap it around, and tape it again on the edge. Voila, ribbon pull!
