so I don't have Mooncat's Bloodbender, and I really want it, but my wallet (and mind) can't handle spending $18 on a bottle of nail polish. buuut I do have too much time on my hands, and a bunch of old swatch wheels from 2021 I should maybe use.

pictured is my franken-attempt at emulating Bloodbender, using 3 coats of Cracked's Cordially Invited, and one coat of KBShimmer's Azure Wish. magnetized in both the cat eye and velvet effect. the swatch images for Mooncats Bloodbender are there for comparison.

Cordially Invited on it's own isn't as vibrant/deep of a burgundy as I would hope, but Azure Wish has a really dark base jelly that helped deepen the red without turning it completely black. the blue's don't entirely match up, Azure Wish is more saturated/true blue than Bloodbender, but this might be because the blue pigment in Bloodbender has to compete with the burgundy jelly base and therefore is a bit darker on the nail.

I just did my nails yesterday so I'll have to wait a few days to test this out. I'm a bit worried it might not work on a smaller scale since I have medium length nail beds and these swatch wheels are Insanely long and wide. still, I'm happy enough with the baseline this creates! I'll maybe test layering a more vibrant red underneath Cordially Invited, so I can get a more saturated burgundy base but still keep the squishy-jelly feel I love.

  1. Getting close! I look forward to seeing your next attempt!

I have Bloodbender in my “dupe challenges” file as well. I’d pay the $18 if there were a couple others I wanted…with shipping it puts the cost at like $26 for one bottle which is not happening lol
