Hey y’all. So I went to a new nail tech today because mu previous one wasn’t following safe techniques. She soaked off the builder gel that had been on for far too long to find that all of my nails have onycholis. Obviously my nails are bare now and I am not doing anything to them until it heals but what are some tips y’all have to care for them. It absolutely broke my heart when we discovered it. I’m attaching photos of my nails.

  1. I’ve had my nails continuously covered in some form of gel polish, quite literally, for over a year and a half with no issue. I am not sure a product being on for “too long” is realistically a thing. Seems like repeated, poor removal or a significant, horrendous removal.

    The gasp I gusped

Listen, having product on nonstop for a long time is not a problem if the products are good and application and maintenance methods are correct and tools are clean. I went years with acrylics on and my nails didn’t look like this when I finally took them off.

  3. Keep the nails off and let your natural nails grow out. They will come back. Mine were like this and I just waited it out. Oil and moisturize the nails and beds. It takes a while but they will return.

Don’t worry I had oncholysis from poor gel removal twice. I didn’t apply anything until it got better apart from jojoba oil and I would cut your nails down as far as it is comfortable and keep trimming them weekly (they look a bit too long to me from the picture) and just wait for the oncholysis to grow out. Now my nails are fine and I haven’t had oncolysis since.
