These were originally square and I'm gonna be honest here, I do not like the way squared off nails look. Don't really care for squoval, either. Or almond, even. Rounded all the way. The brand I bought from (Hanakoko) says you could reshape them, so I figured why not? What's the worst that could happen? I end up with extra-short nails? Won't find me complaining about that.
I don't think I did too badly for a first time—they're a little uneven and I can see a sharpish corner in the photo that needs a bit more filing down, but overall, I'm really happy with how they've turned out. These are definitely going to become my go-to Christmas nails, I think.
(Also, I'm pretty sure the pinky nails are too big but I wasn't game enough to trim down the sides. If anyone has tips for that, I'm all ears!)

You did well! Shaping can be tricky at first. From what I can see your index finger is slightly more squoval and it gets gradually rounder from there to the pinky. But my tip is ignore that and take a break. The differences will stand out more if you get back to it in a few day. I tend to focus on getting the curvature of the edge to match rather than comparing the whole thing.
