This is my first trying a magnetic polish. I tried velvetizing using two neodymium bars that are attracted to each other. I probably magnetized for like 20 seconds for each layer. It looked really good at first I feel. However, right after the mani, it sort of looks more normal/plain again? I think I did something wrong lol.
Last picture is the magnet setup + how my nail looked right after magnetizing.

I’ll add that I waited for the paint to dry before adding top coat
I personally put a fan on my nail for at least a minute while it’s in the magnet, after each magnetized coat. Otherwise it disperses like crazy.
I would recommend doing a first coat on all fingers. Then immediately go for the second coat working one finger at a time. Magnetize second (you don’t have to do first as second rewets first) for 90 seconds. Then float your top coat (a fairly juicy bead of TC) and magnetize for another 90 seconds. Then repeat with all remaining fingers (second coat the top coat).
I get major partial dispersement if I do any other method.
That said, I’ve recently started just magnetizing top coat and it works really well. Same method as above: first coat on every nail, then one finger at a time second coat, wait 90 sec to two min and float top coat, MAGNETIZE TOO COAT IMMEDIATELY! if you wait it will start setting the particles I. The wrong place.
Are you sure your magnets are facing the right way?
20 seconds is nowhere near long enough! I only magnetize the final/thick layer and top coat for magnetics, but I do each for at least a full two minutes.
When I velvetize, I use a u shaped magnet. I don’t see that you have a third one, so maybe that’s interfering with the strength of the pigment pull. I also take my sweet time and magnetize each coat for about 45 seconds minimum.
Just commenting to remind everyone that neodymium magnets can be quite brittle, and bar magnets can easily snap and shatter. The way that OP has them taped with a gap between them, I would not consider this safe and I would not put my fingers between these magnets.
Please be careful with handling strong magnets, and consider using magnets designed for use with nail polish. You can find magnets sold in plastic housing that is safe to place your fingers in, or horseshoe magnets that are large enough for fingers.
