I love doing glitter placement manis and have been doing them for a few years now. But no matter how many times I do them I always have the same problem: there are always a handful of glitters where the corner raises just enough to never smooth out, no matter how much glitter smoothing topcoat I use. As a result, these manis always snag on clothes and it drives me crazy. My expectation definitely isn't to get a mani that's completely smooth. I would just love one where the little pokey corners don't constantly catch on everything. Here is what I've tried so far to fix this:

– putting a thick layer of clear polish over the base color before applying glitters and pressing glitters into the clear polish before using top coat.

– two layers of glitter smoothing topcoat before qdtc

– putting larger glitters on the center, less curved part of my nail bed.

– using a glitter bending tool on metal glitters.

No matter what I do those tiny pokey corners work their way through the topcoat and drive me crazy. Am I missing something? Is this just how glitter manis always are? Please tell me your secrets! 😂🤪

  1. I have the same problem, I use my finger or a toothpick to slightly press sharp edges down when it’s drying. Just gotta be careful I don’t move the whole thing around the nail and mess up the bottom layer
