I have a problem with splitting nails at just two fingers. The first pic is my other hand so you don't need to look at this ugly shit (be warned). I cut and filled them down right at skin many, many times. But that's not enough as the damage is already further on the nail. I tried to cover them with polish and let them grow, hoping it will outgrow the damage but then it just ends up like on this picture. I have no idea what to do, it's just keep splitting and splitting. And it's been like that since I damaged them cleaning grout before last christmas lol
What do I do? I love my nails so i'm loosing my mind here. Any ideas?

*they are just cover with Sally Hansen maximum growth
i have two nails that do this too, no matter what i do , so frustrating.
Is that your dominant hand?
I wonder if you’re doing something using those fingers that could be causing it? Maybe like putting on a skincare product that doesn’t play nicely with nails? (Totally reaching here, just trying to brainstorm)
This is my issue. I type all day at work, so my dominant index and middle nails always peel at the tip. Switching my base coat helped a lot. I use NailTek or Nailtiques formula 2.
I have this too and the same two nails on my dominant hand. I cut them down and try not to use them as tools best possible but it just doesn’t get any better ðŸ˜
My first two fingers on my right hand do this, and I think it’s from doing dishes and using chlorox wipes. I try and wear latex gloves when cleaning now
My nails have never been this bad, but I did hit a point where they would peel and split constantly as soon as I grew a free edge. I’m not sure what I did that damaged it in the first place, but the only cure for me was to stop all polish use, trim down all the nails, and just let them grow naturally for about 4 months, keeping them trimmed pretty short the whole time. Literally all I used was cuticle cream. It kind of was a natural reset for the base nail I guess. No filing whatsoever to allow thickness to come back.
When I started letting them grow again, they were much stronger, and they’ve gone great since.
I hope someone comments with something easier though, your nails are beautiful and several months without polish was so hard for me ðŸ˜
The Kapa Nui Repair and Strength helped my mom repair her nails after chemo. It takes like 3 weeks but it’s truly impressive
Have you spoken to your doctor about it? It looks like there’s something trapped/growing between the two layers.
If you don’t use it. Use nailtique formula 2 pro
Builder gel? I feel like that would really help.
Have you tried cutting them back far enough that you would pass the damage point?
My nails do that too, but I think is trauma from everyday activities…ugh I wish I was born in nobility…ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Anyways, I do glove oil soaks and use opi repair mode in between manicures, I don’t pick on the splits until they fall on their own. And then gently buff ( not often, only when there’s like a texture) but other than that I just cover it.
You might have a vitamin deficiency
Annoying that it’s just those two nails and damage still hasn’t grown out after a year! I swear by OPI Nail Envy and nail oil that has jojoba and vitamin E. I oil the beds from the top as well as underneath the tips.
Ah I’ve struggled with this, big hug!!
I have fine thin hair and weak nails, several of them would split like this. No matter what I did, no matter what vitamins I took or treatments, I had to accept that I could never have nice looking long natural hair or long natural nails. I figured out what my terminal length was for both and after many months of keeping my hair and nails at an appropriate length that my hair and nails *could* handle, I found my hair looks fuller and healthier and my nails no longer split and warp like they used to. If I want to get extensions, great, if I want to do long press on nails, cool, but my body is simply not naturally built like the pinterest girlies, and that’s fine!
I have this too. I just put press on tips on them in hopes they grow out. When they do they don’t last long
I had splitting on the same two nails, they are the ones most people use as tools. Try to avoid using your nails as tools as much as possible — it’s super annoying but necessary if you want to maintain this natural length in the future.
That being said, i think you should cut those nails down because the splitting cannot be repaired and in my experience they’ll continue to split from the existing damage.
What worked for me was cutting down to where they looked undamaged and then religiously using Nailtiques 2+ (or 2, but for damaged nails i used 2+) either on its own or as a base coat, and I never leave my nails bare. Once the polish is fully cured, I use jojoba oil over my cuticles and nails every day.
I also always use gloves to do my dishes. I avoid exposing my nails to water as much as possible in general. But with all that care, I find it very difficult to maintain this kind of length when i need to hand wash all my dishes. ðŸ˜
You may want to ask your doctor — the discoloration / stuff accumulating is concerning. If cutting them to the absolute most isn’t working then I think some extra help is needed
