Base coat: Essie strong start
x2 coats Mooncat House of Hades
x1 coat Holo Taco Shooting Star Taco
Top Coat: Essie speed setter
Picked up my first bottle of house of hades during the lunar sale. Was a little apprehensive about it because I often see people in this sub complain that this polish is hard to work with and that it needs MINIMUM 3-4 coats for full saturation.
Well I’m here to tell you that my experience with this polish has been the complete opposite!! HoH self levels nicely and is not difficult to work with at all imo. As you can see, it looks lovely at full saturation with 2 humble coats. I’m usually super critical of Mooncat due to their high price point, but I gotta hand it to them- this is a fantastic and beautiful polish. My one small complaint is that it wears on the tips quickly and I have to touch up some tips every couple days. But I type a LOT at work so that is definitely contributing to the issue.
I usually don’t wear blue polish, I gravitate more towards pink/purple/funky greens but Im OBSESSED with the celestial look of this mani with shooting star taco, I can’t stop staring at it!⭐️ this is one of my all-time favorite tacos. I wish HT would make it in more colors, like gold and pink!! I definitely do have to spend some time fishing out the stars with a toothpick though.

Looks beautiful! As far as finding different color stars, I wonder if you could buy some at a craft store and just put them onto a normal topcoat using a toothpick?
Would you mind sharing how you touch up your tips after tip wear? I also get a lot of tip wear from typing and sometimes playing piano. When I touch up the tips, I usually put another coat of the polish on. Is that what you do, or do you just touch up the tips and then use another coat of topcoat? Or some other method?
There’s a huge variance between user experience with HOH. People do speculate if the issue is with batch consistency. I wonder if anyone having trouble applying theirs has ever swapped with a person has had no issues. Is it the batch or the individual technique?
Fancy Gloss has started putting out star toppers in different colors. They have recently put out white, yellow, and blue and the owner said she was planning to do more. They’re matte, not holo, but I shall be buying every one. 🙃
You can also buy loose holo stars in several colors from Amazon, Etsy, etc. A little goes a long way!
Nails Inc sells a gold star topper. Orly has a couple including multi colored. By Dany Vianna also has some, including Starry Night, which I think you might like if you love your current manicure. KBShimmer has a black and a white, both mixed with little shreds.
I definitely feel like I consistently have far better experiences with MC than I do negative ones so I really think it’s maybe a case of a few bad batches sometimes. Although it’s still annoying and a bad experience for whoever ends up with a bad batch.
