I’m not a very nail-savvy person, but I have had acrylics in the past and they always looked lovely and never felt thick but I did used to get them slightly longer (had a baby so needed them shorter). It’s been over a year since my last so I got a full set of acrylics with gel polish today. Asked for rounded shape and quite short because I have a baby and don’t want to scratch her / still want to be able to function properly with nails. They just feel really bulky or bulbous, thick and blunt? Is this just because they are too short, or did I get bad nails?

In my opinion not a good set! Love the color though.
Why not just get polish or dip if you’re not getting any length? It’s cheaper and faster.
They’re definitely thicker. I think your tech should’ve filed them down a little bit before adding the color. Also slightly worried about your cuticles. Did the tech do that? I know some people argue that you shouldn’t cut the cuticles and some people say it’s fine. To each their own, but they shouldn’t have cut into live tissue.
For what it’s worth, I still think they’re pretty!
It’s not a bad set, per say, but this is a short set from someone who only knows how to build an apex on longer nails and didn’t understand you have to thin out the edge earlier on the nail for short nails.
It’s not bad but it’s not ideal, so it’s up to you.

Most of my clients are artists, so I do lots of short nails. I don’t have any pics from the angle you took, the nail artist never thinks to shoot from that way lol, but look how thin these even shorter nails are by comparison, since I build a short apex.
Zooming in on the free edge in the last pics… looks weird to me, like layers that don’t match up?
For short nails, find a tech who does structured gel manicures. You’ll be much happier with the results!
These don’t look bad, but they could be a lot better.
If you want to grow out your nails I would do dip for a month. And then switch over to gel polish

I could have gone with just a polish but I’m so bad with biting my nails I always get acrylic, or else they end up ruined anyway🥲 That’s also why my cuticles are awful haha
They’re pretty thick, but in the don’t-come-back way and not in the get-a-refund way
