Excuse the length but I wanted to give a detailed review on the brand because I honestly love them. This is not paid PR, I have no affiliation to the brand nor was this review solicited in any way. I'm actually bummed the website doesn't allow for reviews. Nor am a professional swatcher 😅. I have made one purchase from Sassy Sauce, just picked up another bottle off Mercari and plan to make a BF purchase.

I got back into lacquer earlier this year, and got into indie polishes from this sub (thank you). It started with some Holo Taco polishes from Ulta and a collection of Indies from a destasher on Mercari in August.

Sassy Sauce's C*ck a Doodle Doom was a popular recommendation on this sub, some even saying that it's a must have. And it looked amazing on EVERYONE's posted photos. I placed and order with Sassy Sauce for 5 polishes: C*ck a Doodle Doom, Chi Town Blues, Hypnotic, Glimmer, and Fierce Mojo and a 3 polish mystery bundle: Sticky Kisses, A Pain in the Asteroid 2.0, and Step Right Up. (So 8 polishes total).

My overall review of Sassy Sauce – this may be all time favorite brand so far. The formula is amazingly smooth, applies well and seems to last on my nails. I've found that I like sheer buildable formulas because that's how you get those wonderful color shifts. And despite how sheer the formula can look in one coat, it builds quickly. It does mean that the swatches don't do these polishes justice as compared to what they look like on the nail. I wasn't sure about the mystery bundle from how they looked in the bottle and on swatch sticks, and in all honesty I don't think I would have bought them outright. However, once I tried them on the nail, I loved them. Only one I'm more on the fence about and I think that's because I think I would prefer it was some nail art or in a skittle is Pain in the Asteroid 2.0, but I still don't regret the purchase and would order another mystery bundle again. My order arrived quickly and was well and cutely packed along with a personalized note in the box lid. I really appreciated the personal touch.

The photos are in chronological order from earliest to most recent. Photo descriptions contain the individual color reviews and products used. Photos are completely unedited.

[Pic 1] my Sassy Sauce stash from left to right: Pain in the Asteroid 2.0, Sticky Kisses, Hypnotic, C*ck a Doodle Doom, Chi Town Blues, Glimmer, Fierce Mojo and my most recent addition – Read Between my Tulips!!! – Step Right Up has been abducted by mother so no bottle shot. I love that they are 15 ml bottles and that the bottle tops have a soft satin finish which makes it easy to grip and are not too tall for my Helmer cabinet. And since it's a satin finish and not a soft rubberized finish I expect the caps won't degrade with time. I also really like the paddle brushes that come with the bottles, they are great for application and the round bottles makes them easy to roll in your hands in prep for painting. The chef's kiss is that she alternates between black and white labels depending on the polish color and what would provide good contrast. I appreciate that attention to detail.

[Pic 2] I couldn't decide on what to wear so I went with a blue skittle mixed with KBShimmer polishes. Products: 1x 3 Day Keratin Nail Aid and Peggy Sue Ultra QDTC pointer to pinkie colors were: Chi Town Blues (SS), Cool Beans (KBS), Put a Ring on It (KBS) and Glimmer (SS) all were 2 coats of color. I loved all the colors, and the Sassy Sauce polishes prompted me to get a smoothing basecoat to give a smooth base for the shifty polishes and a peely basecoat to deal with glitter.

[Pics 3-4] The myth, the legend, the incomparable C*ck A Doodle Doom. Pic 3 is inside and pic 4 is outside. Honestly my all time favorite polish. I hope she never discontinues this shade. I loved it on my nails even though I was a little underwhelmed with the swatch. I could not stop staring at my nails and didn't take photos until several days after I applied. My mom liked it so much on me she requested I do her nails the same and I did. Products: 1x KBS Stay Put Hydrating Base, 2x color, 1x Seiche Vice Instant Gel Effect QDTC.

[Pics 5-6] Another skittle with KBS. These chromes were amazing, again I could not stop staring at my nails and playing with different lighting and angles. Products: 1x KBS Stay Put Hydrating Base, 1x KBS Fillin' Groovy, 3 coats of color and 1x Seche Vite Instant Gel Effect QDTC. Thumb, pointer and pinkie were Hypnotic (SS) and middle and ring fingers were Tricked Out (KBS). Both multi chromes were gorgeous, I did like Hypnotic more because of the specific color shifts of blue and purple. I had no doubt I would love Hypnotic based on the photos I saw of it and it was even more magical to wear.

[Pics 7-8] Step Right Up – I was honestly not expecting to like this mystery polish so much, nor did I expect it to be opaque in two coats. It's a light purple polish, with a green flash and small green glitter. Just that description would have caused me to overlook this polish. But honestly I really love it. The green and purple just work, despite it being what seems like a halloween color combo it, in reality it's a polish that can work with any outfit. I honestly don't understand how. It works with red, black, white, pink, green, navy, blue, etc somehow my entire wardrobe. What is this magic??!! It's like a SFW neutral that is not quite neutral. Currently my bottle has been kidnapped by my mother otherwise it would have been included in bottle line up. She was the one that pointed out it goes with everything. I see it becoming a polish I'll regularly reach for when I don't know what to wear and how to match my outfit. Products: 1x Hit the Bottle's "Rose Ash Undies" peely base, 1x KBS Fillin Groovy, 2x color, 1x KBS Clearly on Top.

[Pics 9-10] Using Sticky Kisses as a topper. I had initially planned on wearing it on its own, but the first coat on my thumb seemed so sheer and more like a topper I second guessed my plan and layered it on a creme. Polish sequence: 1x Nailtiques formula 2, 1x KBS Fillin' Groovy, 1x NOL Plum Intended, 2x Sticky Kisses, 1x KBS Clearly on Top. Note that my thumb had an extra coat of Sticking Kisses under Plum Intended. I really liked the color combination with Plum Intended. I wish I had left at least one nail with only a single coat of Sticky Kisses on top for comparison. You can see a combination of opaque purple flakes that don't contrast much from the creme color underneath and blue transparent holo flakes that are more noticeable, there is also a subtle pink/copper flash.

[Pic 11-12] As is the nature of using a peely base, the polish on my middle finger popped off after a couple of days. Which gave me the perfect opportunity to compare Sticky Kisses by itself. Products: Pointer finger (left hand) same list of products as pics 7-8, middle finger (left hand) 1x KBS Stay Put Hydrating Base, 1x KBS Fillin Groovy, 2x Sticky Kisses, 1x KBS Clearly on Top. Pinkie (right hand) same list of products as pics 9-10. You can see more of the pink (flash) and purple (flakes) when Sticky Kisses is worn on its own, the blue holo dominated when I used it as a topper and really brightened up the dark purple, slight greyed creme underneath. Another winning formula in my books. And once again, cannot compare how it looks on a swatch stick vs in the bottle vs on the nail.

[Pic 12] My thumb and pointer polishes popped off after giving my dog a bath, which was not surprising. I was honestly expecting to lose all polish on the nails I used the peely base on. The products on my middle finger (Sticky Kisses), ring and pinkie (Step Right Up) I described in the earlier photos. Thumb and pointer products: 1x KBS Stay Put Hydrating Base, 1x KBS Fillin Groovy, 3x of Fierce Mojo (magnetized every coat) and 1x KBS Clearly on Top (magnetized). My thumb was my first glass bead attempt using the wand method, pointer was the narrow end of a Nd bar magnet angled above the nail. Sassy Sauce has knocked it out of the park with this magnetic. It has incredible shimmer, very reactive and I really liked how it turned out. I'm sure part of this was I've had a little more practice now with magnetic polishes and only painting two nail makes it a lot easier to be patient with the process. As chaotic as my left hand looks right now I really like the overall effect. I think chaotic skittles are going to become my go to now. And I can't wait to get my hands on some more Sassy Sauce magnetics. I think I do prefer the finer magnetic particles.

[Pic 14] My right hand also needed repainting after the dog bath (not surprising). I went with a half mani of Pain in the Asteroid 2.0. This is my least favorite of the Sassy Sauce polishes. The formula is still great, builds really well has a great shimmer etc. Just the color combination is a little less "me" or maybe it's the time of year I'm wearing it. I may have liked this more if I tried it in October. It's a grey tinted jelly with a strong copper flash and dark purple flakes. It has a glowy feel to it. I'm not ready to destash it by any means, but I think I need to play with how I wear it before a decide whether this color is my style. Every other Sassy Sauce polish I've tried I've been excited to wear again, but since I've gotten a lot of polishes I've been pushing myself to wear untried colors before I do repeats. Products: 1x KBS Stay Put Hydrating Base, 1x KBS Fillin Groovy, 2x Pain in the Asteroid 2.0 and 1x KBS Clearly on Top.

[Pic 15] Swatch of Read Between my Tulips!!! (3 coats) with OPI Top Coat on top. At some angles it looks like an opaque royal blue. I'm sure I'm going to love it when I actually wear it. The polish arrived today from a Mercari purchase.

There are a lot of great indie and boutique brands out there and for the most part I've really enjoyed all the brands I have tried. But Sassy Sauce has really stood out to me. I think it's because every polish I've tried from them has surprised me in some way (all in good ways). I think the owner/maker has a really good handle on color theory combined with a winning formula. I don't get bored wearing the polishes as all I have to do is change the angle I look at my nails or the lighting and there is something new to see and enjoy. Also notably it's only been Sassy Sauce polishes that my mom has tried to (and even successfully) absconded with 😂. All my life I've only ever known her to wear neutral shades of beige and pink with the occasional classic red. So to have her now borrowing purple polish with green glitter and the vivid pink/purple C*ck a Doodle Doom (multiple manis) honestly tickles me. I'm genuinely here for it.

Sassy Sauce rules, and has LIGHTNING fast shipping. I don’t think I’ve ever had an order that didn’t ship out the next day (unless it was a weekend).

  2. I’ve only over been brave enough to order one mystery polish before (Lurid, and they were kind enough to heed my request), is it something you do often? I love the mystery shade here!

For your BF cart, my unsolicited recommendations are Dissimulation, Kisses to my Xs, Miz Claws, MILF, Pigment of my Imagination, and their Juicy top coat

  3. Thanks for sharing pics of some of these shades! I agree, I love them, and their magnetics are gorgeous too. Love the mom story.

    Oh, and fantastic dice matching!

I have 5 polishes from them so far and like you I was so impressed with them! Definitely my favorite from all the boutique/indie brands I’ve tried. If they fit your style, check out Buckle up bitchlings and I just blue into town.
