Did you let them know? I’ve seen something like this from another brand with a Halloween banner (I think it’s been over a year or so since that one though) and they didn’t realise their artist had used AI.

Idk, maybe I’m becoming jaded, but I don’t really care that much about if they used an AI image for a generic holiday header to an email. It’s not like they’re using it for product images. Plus a lot of the stock image services are now overrun with AI images, so we don’t even know for sure that PPU didn’t use a stock image — it’s totally possible to purchase a stock image that was AI-generated without intending to do so.
That being said, nothing wrong with reaching out and letting them know that the use of AI for images bothers you as a customer. Also nothing wrong with ceasing to order from them.

There’s a really solid chance that they did buy this as a stock image. Stock image sites are absolutely flooded with unlabeled AI at the moment and it’s easy to mistake a lot of it as regular renders if you’re not looking for it. Send them a message and let them know. How they respond will be the real kicker.

Does look to be AI. Particularly disappointing when businesses in indie maker spaces do this.
If anyone is genuinely curious, wondering ‘how do you tell?’ Architecture details and patterns often give it away. For example where the bricks dont line up or suddenly just blur together
it comes up in a reverse image search so I doubt they made it/knew

Ai slop. Gross. Easy to make excuses. I run my own business and hire other artists for my banners and logos

Yeah super disappointed to see this email 🙁 AI is blatantly disrespectful to the artists it rips off, so when i see small creators use it, it makes me feel like they don’t respect other artists. Like, if AI could find a way rip off these indie nail polish brands, it *would*
I just learned about PPU within the last few months and this makes me rethink giving them money. I hope they make a statement about this and say they’ll be more careful in the future.

It makes me so sad that people use AI to create art, music, etc. I think those are the things that make us uniquely human. I hate seeing it.
