for reference these photos were taken over the course of 10 days.
i was a SERIOUS nail biter for over 2 decades and when i finally stopped, i was expecting permanent damage/funky growth but its been well over a year and thankfully they seem fine.
the problem is, i prefer to keep my nails smedium (medium short like pictures 2 + 3) so im either constantly filing to keep the length consistent or just getting lazy and doing a monthly big chop. if i do nothing, my free edge will be well over half an inch in a months time
i guess im asking if this is an average amount of growth since i have no frame of reference lol, and if so, how often are you filing/shaping your nails? once a week? once a day? assuming a consistent length is your goal.
im just sick of looking down and realizing i need to spend the next hour meticulously filing down and shaping just bc i didnt notice how much they grew😭

I think you share the standard nail growth time (and frustration) as a lot of other shorty wearers. how frequently I file took me documenting my nail growth by the days. I don’t feel any difference in nail length until 3 days after my manicure, and they don’t start becoming a sensory issue until 4-5 days since my manicure.
my standard time between manicures is 6 days. when I can’t drag my thumb over the side of my index finger without my thumbnail catching, it’s time to file them. it’s a bit of a pain but I’m generally okay it. I’d rather have to do it every 6 days than break one because I’m not used to long nails anymore!
My nails grow about 1 mm a week and I have to file on a weekly basis to maintain a consistent length. But I also change my manicure and do cuticle clean up weekly anyway so it’s just the schedule I have 🤷🏻♀️
Sounds about right. I like to maintain my nails barely past fingertip length and I file my nails at least once a week. Before nail polish I typically clipped them twice a week.
Pretty common for me to file my nails day 5 of polish, and a I may or may not touch them up again before applying fresh polish. I typically change polish at 7 to 10 days.
I feel like they never grow when they’re short but grow way too fast once they’re long lol. But on a serious note as someone who is starting to prefer them semi-short, within 2-3 weeks for sure (while filing edges weekly).
Mine grow about 5mm in 2 weeks, latest every 2 weeks I have to cut them, no filing here (can’t stand the feeling and the sound).
Another shortie checking in. My nails grow too fast for my liking. I should file every week, but oftentimes life gets in the way. It’s even more annoying that my nails grow at different rate. My right hand grows faster than my left hand, and my index and middle fingers grow the fastest on both hands 😵💫
