Jen asked her audience if they wanted to see a review of Kiko's advent calendar and the majority said yes. Hence she did film a video and got called out in the comments. The advent calendar from the italian brand contains almost only full size products and maybe 3 "garbage" items (a comb, eyepatches, a hand cream..). Jen said she was not interested in most of them although they're very wearable for the majority of people with flattering universal colors. So people in the comments liked the advent calendar but many of them got a negative vibe from this video.

TLDR: Jen Phelps is accused of being too negative toward Kiko’s latest advent calendar she received in PR, while it contains mainly full size products with flattering colors.

  2. I mean, you like what you like, and I prefer people who are honest about how they feel about products. People seem upset that she didn’t validate their own opinions.

  3. I feel like these beauty influencers can’t win. It’s a personal opinion. If she thinks it’s shit she needs to say that or people won’t believe that she’s being honest.

  4. Well, yeah, you can like a product that someone else dislikes. Advent calendars like these are always bad not because they have small products which seems to be the complaint a lot of people have, but because I’d rather just pick out my products and get what I like. Maybe this person feels the same.

Isn’t honesty what we want from people reviewing makeup and makeup related products?

And why should she review a PR item with kid gloves on?

Products should be able to stand on their own merits and be reviewed truthfully whether they were purchased by the influencer or gifted as PR. She can also be both grateful for receiving it and still think it’s hot water trash.

These comments about being ‘grateful’ for receiving a ‘gift’ are crazy. It’s not a ‘gift’, it’s a company trying to advertise their product and brand. Cynicism and being critical is 100% warranted.

Idk why anybody wants influencers to blindly endorse product.
