Several of my nails (both middle fingers and thumbs) have splits farther down the base of my nail and I was wondering what I can do to help this? Or do I just have to cut?
Go to a nail salon, ask if they can salvage it with builder gel. That’ll hold the splits until you can grow it enough to cut it off 👍🏼

do you have a way to remedy the repair? simply nailogical has a video on how she repaired her broken nail! It’s rlly informative: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i2q5nUoy9cI

If you can do gel yourself and have the equipment it’s an easy repair from the start but I assume from your question you probably don’t.
If not, and if you can’t get to a pro, you can patch it yourself with a bit of nail glue and some fabric. I use silk or fiberglass fabric made for nail repair but you can cut up a tea bag and use that. Use the nail glue and fabric to make a patch. Buff it smooth when it’s dry (and I would use a second layer of nail glue — being sure to get on both sides of the crack if possible) and buff it smooth. Then do your nails. That should hold it for a while. You may need to redo.
As the nail grows out and the weak spot is no longer supported by your finger it’s more likely to break again. You really should get gel for a lasting repair. That said, before I started doing my one gel I went through a lot of tea bags. ☺️
