I want to stress that I painted my thumb and pinky the same colour, on both hands.
I was excited to try these "Mirror Effect" polishes I saw another Canadian laquerista post from the Dollar Tree. I got several and decided to make a skittle with two of them: Mariposa "Mirror Effect" in magenta/purple and light green (no shade names) – the other colours are Sinful Colors "Let's Talk" and China Glaze "Frostbite." (Holo Taco Long-Lasting Base and Glossy Taco on all nails.) Well, I guess there is a reason the Mirror Effect polishes are sold at the dollar store. They were a pain to apply – patchy and not self-leveling – and then the stain!!!
I was suspicious when I was trying to do cleanup around my right thumb and it took me ages with my cleanup brush and acetone, while still leaving some neon pink tint around my nail on my skin. I wore the polish for 2 days before the magenta started chipping and then slid right off.
Pic 1 & 2 are after one thumb and one pinky peeled off entirely. All other colours were fine for wear. Pic 3 is after I removed all my polish with 100% acetone. I've never seen staining like this before! I don't even own a neon pink polish this bright! Pic 4 is after scrubbing with acetone, isopropyl alcohol, polish thinner, and cuticle remover one after the other. Several tries with both the acetone and isopropyl alcohol. The only one that made a bit of a difference was the alcohol, but it was slight. Pic 5 is the bottle, so you know to avoid it! 😵
I'm a bit afraid to try the other colours I bought now, although it seems unlikely any of them would have this eye-searing neon pink base pigment. They look lovely on my swatch sticks! But if they wear anything like this magenta, they're not worth it in the least!
