Hi!

My natural nails are currently in quite a damaged state – indentations, breaking, splitting, and peeling – due to overuse of an e-nail file a few weeks ago. I've attached some photos.

They're slowly starting to grow back, as I can see new regrowth on the bottom of each nails. However, because my nails are incredibly paper thin now, I've been thinking of getting a professional treatment – BIAB to add some strength to my nail plates to protect them as they bend so easily.

Does this seem like a good idea? Or, should I leave them a while longer to grow further?

Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions!

  1. Tbh I wouldn’t touch them until they’re fully grown out. Sorry this happened to you, it looks so uncomfy. 🙁

Oh my goodness, please don’t put anything on them until they grow out. This looks incredibly painful, I’m so sorry they over-filed to this extent. Jesus Christ.

I came back to this just to ask – did you say anything to the nail artist when they did this? It almost looks infected on the second picture. Like this is kind of horrific.

Do not put anything on these nails that isn’t an oil, lotion, or similar product. No fakes, no clear coat, no gel, nothing that has to be removed afterwards. Your nails couldn’t handle removing anything more from them.

    Time and gentleness.

You’ll want to have nail covering Most of the plate and no open wounds before considering gel. The overspill on bare skin will really skyrocket your chances of getting an allergy 🙁 Something like a standard lacquer calcium base coat could help them grow out healthier?

This is pretty extreme even for overfiling, I would seriously recommend going to a doctor.

Are you being trained or going to technical college? I really do not recommend touching an e-file again until you get some training. Sorry to be harsh but this is the most extreme overfiling I’ve ever seen and I would recommend being trained before ever using it again. Don’t put anything on it. Definitely see a doctor.

don’t put anything on them except oil bro. the exposed nail bed underneath is gonna be very painful when you inevitably have to remove whatever you put on. just oil them religiously and let them grow out.

Oh my sweet poor thing. This looks so painful. I want to give you a hug.

Please let your nails heal. I know it’s unsightly and they’re probably very sensitive but it’s for the best for the long term health of your nails.

Just keep them clean, apply cuticle oil gently, and when you’ve got slightly more nail to work with, spend a couple months just putting on nail strengthener coats.

I would not put artificial nails or polish back on until the ring of fire is grown out.

    Good luck OP!

In the gentlest way possible: please don’t do gel and use efiles on your nails on the future unless you do some training and take some classes. There’s a reason we pay people for these services, and Covid marketing has given everyone the tools they need to become their own gel nail techs when the reality is gel should just be left at the salon. Vaseline your nails every night at bed and put them in gloves and just constantly be putting jojoba oil on them. Get a mont blue glass file for the future; it’s gentle and won’t further damage your nails
