I’ve been trying to figure this out and couldn’t get a clear answer from Google or ChatGPT.
It seems like Japanese makeup brands (such as Canmake) are cheaper in Canada (at least in Vancouver stores like Oomomo, Miniso, etc.) than in Taiwan, even though Taiwan is way closer to Japan. Canmake products seem to be around $3 CAD more in Taiwan. You’d think that shipping and distribution would be easier and cheaper since it’s way closer, but somehow the prices are higher in Taiwan???
Same thing with Korean products like Romand lippies. $19.30 CAD in one Taiwanese store, while $12.75 CAD before tax at Oomomo Canada.

Anyone know why that is? Is it import taxes, currency, local markups, or something else I’m missing?
