She’s yet another controversial and famous person in beauty. She owns two beauty brands that are complete rip-offs! Allegedly, Merit will soon be acquired by the Estée Lauder Companies.
Merit Beauty is literally Westman Atelier + some aesthetics of the furniture shop in LA called “Merit”!!!!
Versed Beauty is literally a knock-off of Verso, the Scandi beauty brand.
Apparently, Katherine Power is also involved in a lot of financial institutions, venture capital firms, etc., so she’s rich and well-connected.
Most importantly, she was allegedly involved in the controversy surrounding the affordable housing initiatives in California and was actively campaigning against it—literally asking her followers to vote against. She allegedly is a Republican… idk, it’s so weird that a brand sold at Sephora can be so controversial, conservative, and classist.
I tried to scout some info on her on the internet, but there was very little information. I don’t even know if her last name is real or if she’s just trying to appear powerful. Some people commented on TikTok that her parents were into horse racing, so she might be born into wealth.
She also recently bought a mansion (allegedly) for like 35 million or something.
I also read that she’s originally from Chicago and moved to LA 20 years ago. When she moved to LA, she lived in a fancy five-star hotel for 8 months. That’s so weird—how could a very young girl afford a five-star hotel in LA for such a long time?
I’ve seen videos on TikTok where creators were complaining about her alleged questionable business practices and that she sneakily tried to own the content of those creators by making them sign a contract in which, in the fine print, it said that Merit Beauty would own everything in exchange for the product. Wtf???
I also think that she’s completely obsessed by Gucci Westman. She follows all her stuff. Westman Atelier did a video with Martha Stewart, Merit copied it, Gucci Westman was discovered by Grace Coddington, Merit it a campaign with her, Westman Atelier launched sticks years before Merit, of course Katherine Power copied her, Gucci Westman is friends with Cameron Diaz, of course Katherine Power co-founded a wine brand with Cameron Diaz, etc. It feels morbid at this point.
